Geelong East Primary School was established in 1857 and has  a long tradition of excellence and commitment to the education and welfare of its students.

The school has a current enrolment of 372 children drawn from a wide area. In 2016 the school is organised into 15 multi age classes (except Prep) with an average size of 25. Our staff includes a mix of teachers and support staff including a speech therapist, literacy and numeracy support and a librarian.

The teachers work together in a purposeful and professional manner to plan and implement a curriculum, based on inquiry learning that strengthens and enhances each student's potential - academic, social and physical. All teachers work in professional learning communities, collaboratively planning and teaching together.

The school is proud of its commitment to providing a wide variety of programs and activities to complement its strong core curriculum. Particular strengths are its values ethos, student leadership development programs, commitment to the environment (5 Star Sustainable School) intervention and enrichment programs which cater to individual student needs.

Geelong East Primary School was accepted into the project “New Learning for Deep Pedagogies”. This three year, international project utilises research to support modern teaching and learning practice including utilising learning technologies to accelerate student learning. This project includes working with other schools and system leaders.

Specialist programs in 2016 are Visual Art, LOTE (Indonesian in Prep, 1 and 2) Performing Arts, Science (Years 3-6) and Physical Education. `Out of School Hours Care' programs run before and after school as well as during vacations. A Sporting Schools program is also made available during the year.

The school has extensive gardens and grounds providing active and passive play areas, a full sized oval and well maintained play equipment areas. Buildings include permanent wings and several relocatable classrooms. The Multi-Purpose Centre includes a full size court area, music room and canteen, which has been accredited by Nutrition Australia.

The school completed a School Review in 2015 and a new Strategic Plan 2016-2020 is being implemented.
